1. Kun je jezelf en Optiver kort voorstellen?
As a leading proprietary trading firm, Optiver makes markets more efficient, transparent and stable for all. Founded in Amsterdam in 1986 with a single trader on the floor of Amsterdam’s European Options Exchange, we now have close to 2,000 employees in offices around the world, and are active on multiple exchanges. Trading options, futures, equities, FX, fixed income and commodities products, we work together to provide markets with liquidity, competitive pricing and reliable risk management—even during times of volatility.
As a company we aim for excellence and we take ownership. We've adopted a global Net Zero strategy since 2021, which aims to minimise our environmental impact through reducing our carbon footprint—both current and historic—using a threefold approach: Measure, Reduce, Offset.
2. Waarom doet Optiver mee met de Boskalis Beach Cleanup Tour?
At Optiver, we believe in making thoughtful, high-impact decisions—not just in the markets, but in our communities too. Supporting the Beach Clean-Up Tour is a way for us to act on that principle. Our Amsterdam team have shared great memories together on the Dutch coast recently—during our company weekend in Texel and our summer event at Bloemendaal—so protecting those environments feels especially meaningful. It’s a way to give back to the places we enjoy together and help keep them beautiful for everyone.
3. Wat zijn de belangrijkste duurzame doelen van Optiver?
In line with our global Net Zero strategy, we've worked hard in Europe to choose sustainable products and partners in our local office operations, and globally we've engaged in specific offset projects—for example, providing low-income rural households in China with biogas digesters and cookstoves, and supporting landfill gas capture and purification from a solid waste landfill in Brazil.
In 2021, Optiver launched the independent Optiver Foundation, a non-profit organisation committed to funding practical, enduring solutions that spur environmental action and promote diversity. The Foundation’s philanthropic approach mirrors Optiver’s entrepreneurial mindset, tapping into the power of science, technology and education as transformative tools to drive positive change in the world.
4. Waarom moeten mensen meedoen aan de Beach Cleanup Tour?
In the short term, we hope to remove as much waste as we can and raise awareness among participants and beyond. Long-term, we hope our involvement inspires ongoing care for the natural spaces we all rely on and enjoy. We also hope it encourages small, consistent actions—inside and outside the workplace—that collectively lead to lasting change.
For our people, it’s an opportunity to step outside the office and do something real and visible—together. It’s a refreshing way to connect, not only with each other, but also with the environment. The cleanup isn’t just a team activity; it’s a reflection of the culture we’re building—one where taking initiative, making a difference, and having fun go hand in hand.
5. Wat zijn jullie tips voor een schone en gezonde Noordzee?
We believe that every action counts. Whether it’s picking up plastic from the sand, making more sustainable choices locally, or simply being more mindful about our own impact on our surroundings—small decisions that set a good example can lead to big change. At Optiver, we're
committed to doing the right thing and we challenge ourselves to always be better—and we encourage everyone to bring that same mindset to how we care for the world around us.
